MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has warned aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) against the illegal operations of “airport escorts” who offer speedy processing of immigration papers to work abroad.
Selling one’s kidney is not new, whether in the Philippines or in other countries. Worldwide, there is a long waiting list for kidney donors. The unmet demand has fueled a robust underground trade in kidneys. Inevitably, the biggest kidney vendors are impoverished people, who don’t understand that whatever they earn from selling this body organ can quickly be eaten up by expenses from the health problems that can arise from living with only one kidney.
leaderbet slotThe Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakaya ng Pilipinas is seeking a dialogue with the Laguna Lake Development Authority over the planned solar power project that will cover 2,000 hectares of Laguna de Bay. Pamalakaya, which says it supports renewable energy development, points out that the solar project will displace 8,000 fisherfolk, with 2,000 involved in aquaculture.
“Beware of such scheme in exchange for huge amount of cash,” the DMW posted on social media.
Reacting to the DMW advisory, some netizens said they have been offered such services in exchange for a processing fee of up to P200,000.
The DMW advised those applying for work abroad not to deal with unauthorized people and agencies to avoid becoming victims of illegal recruitment, human trafficking and online scams.
