United were beaten 3-1 by Brighton at Old Trafford on Sunday, with that the 10th game they have lost in 22 Premier League outings this term – the earliest they have hit double figures for defeats in the top-flight since 1989-90.
Amorim did not hold back when speaking to Sky Sports after the game, describing this current side as "the worst team, maybe, in the history of Manchester United".
Carragher does not believe the United boss should have made those comments publicly, however, believing it may further damage the confidence of his players.
"I don't know Man Utd's history as well as Gary Neville, but I must say it was one of the most bizarre and ridiculous things I've ever heard a manager say," Carragher told Sky Sports News.
"Why you would make a comment like that… that's the type of comment a pundit would make, someone in my position, and you'd have to defend that. I don't know what he gains from that, what the benefit is.
"We all know it's a poor Man Utd team. They'd lost another game at home to Brighton; they'd done that in the last couple of years anyway.
Hockey India President Dilip Tirkey expressed his enthusiasm and stated: "This bilateral series against Germany will be a remarkable showcase of world-class hockey. Both India and Germany have a rich history in the sport, and this series will give fans an opportunity to witness an intense competition between two of the most formidable teams in the world.
"It is a great honour to be nominated for the FIH Player of the Year Award again," the Indian defender stated in a Hockey India release.
"We know it's a tough season, we know it's a poor team. He has just loosened it up. That will be a quote that follows him for the rest of the season.
"He said to the journalists there, 'I'll give you your headline'. Why you would like to do that as a manager, I'll never know. It doesn't help you confidence-wise going forwards."

— OptaJoe (@OptaJoe) January 19, 2025United suffered their sixth home Premier League defeat of the season, which is their most from their opening 12 home matches of a league campaign since 1893-94 (seven).
Amorim has now overseen five defeats in 10 matches since succeeding Erik ten Hag at United, who are 13th and heading for their worst-ever Premier League finish.
"I've not got much sympathy for the players in the Man Utd dressing room; they've been a joke for a few years now," Carragher added.
"A few weeks ago, after they played Liverpool, where Lisandro Martinez was talking about the mentality that was different, I nearly couldn't stop laughing when I saw that.
"The amount of times Man Utd have thrown the towel in with bad performances over the last four or five years...
kaboom slots"What I would say is how can the manager go into the dressing room between now and the end of the season and continually try to build them up and give them belief to beat the opposition, whoever they come up against, when he has said they're one of the worst teams in Man Utd history? At no point can I see what he'll gain from that."
United, who have conceded the first goal in each of their last five Premier League games at Old Trafford, return to action on Thursday with a home Europa League match against Rangers.
